Show me the Monet
2005
Print on Canvas

Banksy’s Show Me the Monet reimagines Claude Monet’s celebrated Water Lilies with a sharp, contemporary twist. Two shopping trolleys and a bright orange traffic cone clutter the idyllic pond, transforming the scene into a biting commentary on pollution, consumer culture, and society’s disregard for the environment.
The punning title reflects both Banksy’s critique of the art market’s obsession with money and his challenge to the commodification of beauty. In 2020, the work sold at Sotheby’s for £7.6 million, ironically reinforcing the very tensions it seeks to expose.
