Banksy™ Thrower
2017

Print on Paper

In the Autumn of 2019, Banksy filled a shopfront in Croydon with a collection of new artworks and announced it on social media as his new venture, Gross Domestic Product. This artwork was first seen there.

For the first time, Banksy experimented with a new printing technique using stencils sprayed onto processing film and directly exposed onto a silk screen. This method avoids digital manipulation and produces an accurate analog representation of gestural mark making, resulting in a visually stunning effect.

Flower Thrower is a variation of Banksy's iconic artwork Love Is In The Air (Flower Thrower). It features a masked man poised to throw a bouquet of flowers instead of a destructive weapon, symbolising peace. In the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) version, the image is deconstructed and presented as a triptych.

The primary market for this artwork is through Gross Domestic Product, with buyers committing not to sell it at auction for three years. However, it has already been sold twice at Tate Ward Auctions.

On October 17, 2020, Flower Thrower was first sold at Tate Ward Auctions for GBP 237,500 (USD 313,600).
