Banksy vs Bristol Museum – limited edition lithograph poster
2009
Limited Edition Lithograph Poster

During the British summer of 2009, Banksy and his team collaborated with the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery to put on the ‘Banksy versus Bristol Museum’ exhibition.
As Banksy said, ‘This is the first show I’ve ever done where taxpayers’ money is being used to hang my pictures up rather than scrape them off.’
Installations included a burnt-out ice-cream truck playing warped tunes with a melted ice-cream atop its roof, an angel sculpture with a paint pot turned upside on its head, fishfingers swimming in a fishbowl and a Rembrandt self-portrait with googly eyes. There were also many of Banksy’s canvases placed randomly around the historical painting collections in the museum’s exhibition halls.
Queues formed for hours as the public came to view over 100 works by the artist, many of which had been put on display for the very first time.
The gift shop sold several collectable pieces including postcard sets and four lithograph posters with various designs.
This poster from the show features a policeman’s reaction to looking at Banksy’s riot policeman sculpture – that artwork depicted a law enforcement officer in full riot gear sitting on a child’s rocking horse toy.
