2015
Print on Paper

On 21st August 2015, Banksy opened a surprise temporary art installation near his hometown of Bristol. ‘Dismaland’, an anarchy-styled art show, featuring works by Banksy and 58 other artists including Damien Hirst and Jimmy Cauty.
Based in Weston-super-Mare, a British seaside town, the event was set up in an old, abandoned swimming lido, across 2.5 acres – a location, so it is rumored, that Banksy swam at when he was a child.
Works on show included a Cinderella pumpkin crash photographed by paparazzi, a giant sandcastle and sand pit, a police van water cannon fountain and a killer whale jumping out of a toilet bowl through a hoop.
After the ‘theme park’ closed later that year on the 27th of September, large elements of the material from the installation were removed and reused to create shelters in the Calais Jungle for refugees.
On display here is a map and guidebook pamphlet for the art project.
