Golf Sale
2003
Print on Paper
Banksy's early street art piece "Golf Sale” pays homage to the iconic photograph from the events at Tiananmen Square in China. The photograph, depicting a man confronting war tanks, became a symbol of the non-violent movement in the '80s.
In this artwork, Banksy subverts the image by replacing the tanks with a ‘golf sale’ sign, referencing the consumerism associated with the dominant class. The piece serves as a rhetorical critique of the establishment and raises questions about societal priorities.
Originally released as 100 screen prints in 2005, the artwork was sold for $500 each.
