Banksy created poignant moments in Paris, criticising France’s callous response to the refugee crisis. One of his works references Jacques-Louis David’s Napoleon Crossing the Alps, depicting a comical red-caped rider with their face covered, suggesting the country’s leadership is blind. This may also allude to the 2010 “Burka Ban” prohibiting face coverings in public, including religious garments such as the burka or niqab worn by some Muslim women.
