A Great British Spraycation took place in August 2021, when Banksy created a series of works across multiple seaside towns along the east coast of England, including locations such as Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth, and Cromer. Unveiled gradually over several days, the murals formed an informal trail, transforming these coastal areas into a temporary open air exhibition that attracted visitors from across the country.

Emerging at a time when international travel was restricted, the project reflects a shift toward domestic holidays, using familiar seaside imagery to capture the mood of a nation turning inward. Playful scenes featuring children, leisure, and everyday life are layered with subtle social commentary, touching on themes of economic uncertainty, tourism, and social inequality.

Through humour and accessibility, Banksy reimagines the British seaside not just as a place of escape, but as a stage for observing contemporary life. The series balances lightness with critique, offering a snapshot of a particular moment in time while continuing his exploration of public space as a site for reflection and dialogue.
