The Walled Off Hotel
2017

Installation

The Walled Off Hotel is a unique and provocative establishment located in Bethlehem, Palestine, adjacent to the West Bank Barrier.

Opened in 2017 by Banksy, the hotel is part art installation, part functioning hotel, and part political statement. It is situated right next to the towering concrete wall, which is heavily graffitied with art and messages of resistance and hope. The proximity to the wall gives the hotel its ironic tagline: “The hotel with the worst view in the world.” Guests staying in the rooms often find themselves staring directly at the barrier, offering an unfiltered perspective on life under occupation.

The Walled Off Hotel goes beyond being a simple place to stay—it actively engages with the region’s socio-political issues. Banksy designed the hotel to spark conversations about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, drawing attention to the realities of life in the occupied territories. The art often juxtaposes humor and tragedy, forcing visitors to confront uncomfortable truths.
