Avon and Somerset Constabulary
2001
Print on Canvas

“Avon And Somerset Constabulary” pays homage to Banksy’s hometown of Bristol, whose local law enforcers are the Avon and Somerset Police. The artwork was first created around 2001 as a spray-painted stencil on canvas in pink or blue backgrounds, both released in an edition of 10. Original canvases of Avon and Somerset Constabulary were also created around the same time – such as a variation with a red and white striped background.
The original prints are auctioned for about 400 US dollars in auction houses such as Sotheby’s.
Depicted are two policemen, looking somewhat awkwardly, with binoculars in the air.
Policemen have always been central figures in Banksy's works, as they are emblematic of many conditions and actions that the artist criticises.
“Some people represent authority without ever possessing any of their own.”
-Banksy
