Bizarre Magazine was a British periodical, published between 1997 and 2015. It covered alternative culture, and featured articles on pornography, censorship and the arts. Its covers often depicted scantily clad women.

In 2002, the 102-page publication conducted an interview with Banksy, featuring seven dedicated pages to the artist, the interview and his art, and included a ‘tear-away’ collectable rat stencil insert within its pages for its readers to use or keep.

He wrote the following in his book Wall and Piece: “On Painting Rats, and the Glorification of Them. They exist without permission. They are hated, hunted and persecuted. They live in quiet desperation amongst the filth. And yet they are capable of bringing entire civilizations to their knees. If you are dirty, insignificant, and unloved then rats are the ultimate role model.”
