Double Toxic Mary
2003
Print on Paper

"Toxic Mary (double), 2003" is a poignant and monumental work by Banksy. Against a shimmering gold background, the painting depicts two mirror-image versions of the Virgin Mary cradling baby Jesus, both feeding them with orange hazard bottles while a rifle sight hovers above. This artwork was included in Banksy's first exhibition, "Turf War," held in an East London warehouse, which was infamously closed by the police just two days after opening.
