Lion Tamer
2009
Sculpture
Exhibited at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery during the “Banksy vs Bristol Museum” takeover. In this striking sculptural intervention, Banksy repurposes a classical museum-lion statue into a subversive allegory of revolt. The lion, traditionally emblematic of regal power and dominance, is depicted here with a whip draped in its jaws and a red cloak symbols of the tamer’s authority discarded beside it.
