Police Kids (Jack and Jill)
2005
Print on Paper

Banksy's screen print, ‘Police Kids’ employs great irony to question the juxtaposition of war, culture and childhood innocence in Western society.
The term ‘police’ in ‘Police Kids’ is a clever wordplay rather than a literal description. Childhood represents innocence and playfulness, yet society deems it necessary to supervise and control, as its exuberance can be seen as subversive. This is reflected in the bulletproof vests depicted in the artwork.
Released in 2005 as a limited-edition print, ‘Police Kids’ comes in a blue edition of 350 prints, consisting of 150 signed and 200 unsigned copies. Additionally, Banksy created a very small run of 22 pink proofs in 2005.
In Banksy's own words from his book, ‘Wall and Piece’, he states, "A lot of parents will do anything for their children except let them be themselves."
