Rural Landscape
2017
Burned canvas and stencil on wall

A canvas burned away leaves only the words “Rural Landscape” stencilled onto the wall. Presented within an ornate, traditional frame, the absence becomes the subject itself. The image has disappeared, replaced only by its name.
Created within the context of the Walled Off Hotel, the work speaks through erasure, questioning what is omitted, what is removed, and who decides. There is no landscape to see, only its label. This absence becomes meaning in itself.
